    Atlanta Motor Speedway is the hot ticket for race fans this summer for lots of exciting racing action. Two of the speedways most popular series are set to return on Thursday and Friday nights. Fans can enjoy short track racing at Thursday Thunder and street style drag racing at Friday Night Drags.

    The popular Thursday Thunder is back for its 15th season. Come out to the track to see some of the best up and coming drivers in the region compete in this 8-week summer series. The season kicks off on June 7 and runs through July 26. Seven different classes of short track racing will run on Atlanta Motor Speedways paved mile Thunder Ring. Fans will see Legends, Buzz car, and Bandolero events. Legends cars are 5/8 scale replicas of classic cars of the 1930s. Buzz cars are 3 or 4 cylinder front wheel drive stock cars with a wheel base of no more than 105 inches. Bandoleros are small cars with 30 horse power engines designed for entry level racers. Race fans will enjoy games, contests, and giveaways. Each week there will be a different theme with contests. Spectator tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for youth ages 6-11 years. Thursday Thunder is a family friendly event.

    Drag racing fans will enjoy Atlanta Motor Speedways 6th season of Friday Night Drags, which runs every Friday through September 21, 2012. Average attendance at these popular race nights is 5,000 fans. This street style drag racing series is run on the tracks 1/8 mile pit road. The racing event is open to any car, and drivers need only a valid drivers license. Friday Night Drags typically bring in 225 racers. The pit gates open at 6pm for practice runs, and racing begins at 9:19pm. Each Friday night there is also a Show N Shine Car Show. Entries are accepted until 7:30pm. Show entrants can cruise around the 1.54 quad oval track in front of the fans at 8:20pm. Awards are given to the top three vehicles in each class. Entry fee for the Drags or the Show N Shine Car Show is $20. A combo entry fee to both events is $30. Spectators pay just $8 to watch the action. Parking outside the track is free, and infield parking is $20.

    Atlanta Motor Speedway is located 25 miles south of Atlanta on Hwy 19/41 in Hampton, Georgia. Concessions are available at the speedway, but fans may bring their own coolers. No glass containers are allowed.
